If you haven't heard of it, you're missing out! Forest Ridge Park has a number of great classes for young children including "Jake & Jennies." These classes are designed specifically for young children and often involve nature exploration, storytelling, crafts, and interactive games. I've brought my own kids to the class for years - Mrs. Sarah who leads the class is a former Middle School Science teacher and so wonderful with the children.

The fenced in garden boasts a variety of colorful plants, whimsical murals, sandbox, play house, and sensory play board designed to delight the senses and encourage exploration. Turtles and frogs can be found jumping in small ponds.


This feature is easy to miss on the side of the North Entrance to the park!

The Discovery Room is a special place for families and visitors of all ages to explore the natural world up close. Young children are free to explore by touching fossils, feeling bird wings, playing with learning activities, reading books in small nooks and watching the live beehive.

4 | House of Sports Soccer

House of Sports has Learn to Play classes throughout the year. It provides hour-long classes for children ages 2-12. Kids learn the basics of soccer while burning some energy.


After general warm ups, they break up the groups by age for skill-building activities.

Your community parks and recreation teams work hard year-around to provide large scale events like 4th of July fireworks to community classes, cultural events, and sports leagues for kids. My children loved the ballet classes and soccer at Rolesville Parks and Rec.

Classes for young children and their parents or caretakers where we use play, songs, and stories to actively build self-regulation and social awareness skills. Parents and caretakers will learn practical strategies and games to support self-regulation at home and how to handle big feelings in ways that grow the brain and self-regulation skills. Children need to wear active shoes.
